Thanks Mondy for pointing us to an innovative way to test toxicity in stream water. The use of bioluminescent plankton is interesting, as it neutralizes the effects of salinity, thus measures toxicity only. I wonder, however, how we can tell how much salt should be added to our water samples? Shani Kleinhaus

Stevens Creek has been listed by the Regional Board for toxicity. I am interested in trying to determine whether or not there is a point source. Recent tests by the Santa Clara County Stormwater Program have shown that toxicity exists in the embedded sediments at 3 locations. The Stevens & Permanente Creeks Watershed Council is designing a testing protocol to attempt to locate any point sources. Any idea out there are welcomed.
